My wife’s Grandma handed me Are You Hungry Tonight?: Elvis’ Favorite Recipes the other day. I thought it was a joke at first, but apparently her sister received it as a Christmas gift this year. I paged through the book, and indeed it had Elvis’ favorite recipes. They are mostly southern classics or high fat, high cholesterol heart attack specials. If Elvis ate like that, he was probably lucky he died of a drug overdose!

Microsoft Songsmith: Sing a Little Song for Me
January 10, 2009 · 1 Comment
Microsoft Research is has an neat application out called Songsmith. Looks really cool to play with, not sure it is much more than a toy. It might be one of those application like Photo Booth for the Mac that makes people excited about Windows.
What is Songsmith?
Songsmith generates musical accompaniment to match a singer’s voice. Just choose a musical style, sing into your PC’s microphone, and Songsmith will create backing music for you. Then share your songs with your friends and family, post your songs online, or create your own music videos.
Although it is not Tony Bennett or John Mayer demoing Songsmith, the demo video is amusing.

Word Clouds Made Easy
January 7, 2009 · Leave a Comment
I was looking for an application to make a word cloud and came across Wordle. It makes some beautiful word clouds at random and allows you to customize. The word cloud in this post is a cut and paste of the Preamble of the U.S. Constitution.
Wordle is a toy for generating “word clouds” from text that you provide. The clouds give greater prominence to words that appear more frequently in the source text. You can tweak your clouds with different fonts, layouts, and color schemes. The images you create with Wordle are yours to use however you like. You can print them out, or save them to the Wordle gallery to share with your friends.

Steve has released his “Top 25 Holiday Gift Ideas – Educational Toys with a High Wow Factor” Some great ideas for all ages, too bad we are almost done with our Christmas shopping. If you like those gift ideas, you might want to also check out his Top 10 Under $10.

Late to the Harry Potter Game
December 3, 2008 · Leave a Comment
I was a few years behind the first release of Harry Potter. I am glad my wife turned me on to the first book and I am proud to say I have completed the saga. I was very impressed with the ending; it made all 7 books worthwhile. Now I can get on with some other reading, next up Alice Cooper, Golf Monster.
Mostly I cannot wait until my boys are old enough, so I can start over!
BTW, this was posted with Blogo. At first glance, it is a well written blog client. I will give it a fair chance.
